Many of the food items that define modern Pakistani and North Indian cooking have origins inside the subcontinent. At the same time, many foods that are now commonplace are based on fruits and vegetables that originated outside the subcontinent. These ingredients are used in Mughlai, Punjabi, Kashmiri and Frontier cooking.
North Indian cuisine, part of Indian cuisine, is a term used to refer to the cuisines found in northern India which includes the eleven Indian states: Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh Rajasthan Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
